The Legacy of Nordic Hoists: Innovation Through Generations
The Nordic brand represents decades of engineering excellence and innovation. Its story began in 1950 when Steve Seniuk, a Ukrainian immigrant, opened a small blacksmith shop in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He crafted anchors for Lake Winnipeg’s fishing industry and built wooden grain boxes for prairie farmers, laying the foundation for Nordic’s hoists.

In 1966, Steve’s sons, the Seniuk brothers, launched the “P” series underbody hydraulic truck hoist, their first proprietary product. This milestone introduced the Nordic brand, symbolizing strength and resilience. That same year, they named the company Nord-Sen to reflect their focus on innovation in truck hoist engineering.

During the 1970s, Nordic led advancements in hydraulic solutions. The team developed the patented “DH” series hydraulic drop-hinge truck hoist, increasing lifting capacity and simplifying installation. They also introduced the front-mount telescopic cylinder, completing a full range of hoisting equipment for industrial dump bodies. These innovations solidified Nordic’s reputation for reliability in heavy-duty applications.

In the 1980s, Nordic expanded its product line with the “TL” series telescopic cylinders, designed for low-clearance applications. The company also adopted AutoCAD, improving design efficiency and strengthening its position as a leader in custom-engineered solutions.

Today, in 2025, Nordic remains the trusted brand for hoists by Nordstrong. The team focuses on innovation and delivering high-quality hydraulic solutions to industries worldwide.

From the “P” series to the latest cutting-edge hoist designs, Nordic’s journey reflects decades of dedication and progress. As the brand honors its roots, it continues advancing telescopic hydraulic cylinders and hoisting equipment, staying true to its values of quality and reliability.
